On the way home we visited the Abraham Lincoln birthplace. Being that he and I share a birthday and Lauren was Abe for a book report this year we thought this would be a fun trip. The kids weren't impressed with it at all! No history buffs with them! Dad and Mom thought it was interesting though. It was fun to stand where he was born and here neat facts about his boyhood and family. Mad and Ryan did enjoy playing with authentic Lincoln Logs though! It was fun for the adults.

Lost River Cave
One of my favorite areas was the Lost River Cave park. They had walking trails in the woods, a butterfly garden, and of course the cave tour. Only this tour was by boat and was fantastic! I loved the boat part of it! The cave was awesome also. The kids enjoyed the butterfly garden. Especially Ryan who was determined to get one to land on him....though it didn't happen! The trails were fun to go on and were just the right level for the kids to hike on. It was HOT so the shade in the woods was nice also. I highly recommend this cave tour if you are in the area.
Mammoth Cave
We couldn't go to Cave City and not visit Mammoth Cave!! It was truly amazing. There are so many different cave tours you can go on. The cave is, well, mammoth! I hope one day to return and do some of the other tours!! It was really neat to tour the cave and see the historic entrance and hear the different stories about the different rooms and tunnels of the cave. The kids did enjoy it but were ready for the tour to end.
Happy Trails To You.......
One evening we all went on a horse back ride. It was an adventure. The kids were super excited about it....Dad, well, not so much! Ryan has wanted to ride a horse for awhile now so he was real excited about doing this. Mad was feeding off the excitement but also remembered her experiences with horse therapy! Lauren, of course, was ready to go. Having a little bit of my Mom in me, I also was excited about riding the horse. Overall the experience went ok. Dad and Mad rode together and had a tough time leading their horse. Lauren was a pro. Ryan loved every minute of the ride and can't wait to ride again!!
Kentucky Action Park
One afternoon Lauren and Mom went out by ourselves. There was a place called Kentucky action park but most of the things there Mad and Ryan were too little to do. Lauren and I rode the Alpine Slide. We rode a chair lift up the mountain and came down on a slide. It was super fun!! The slide was a little fast and the chair lift a little high for ol' Mom but even I had a great time doing them!! Then Lauren did this trampoline that literally was on the edge of the hill!! Neither one of us got the hang of the bumper boats though!
Dinosaur World
The next day we headed to Dinosaur World. It had over 100 life sized dinosaurs which was fun to see. The kids also did a fossil dig and were able to keep some of the fossils they found. The place was fun and the kids enjoyed it but Mom and Dad thought it needed more to do. The kids like the dinosaur themed playground too.
Kentucky Down Under
This year we stuck close to home for vacation. We went to Cave City, Kentucky. On the first day there we went to a place called Kentucky Down Under which is an Australian themed place. Everything is hands on there! We were able to feed birds that literally swarmed you and ate the food that you had for them. I thought it was really cool but it was somewhat overwhelming to Mad and Ryan! The kids also got the opportunity to see a camel and milk a cow. Then we were able to pet and interact with real Kangaroos! It was awesome. They just set there and let us pet them. Then we went on a cave tour in the park. This cave had some tight areas but was really neat inside. The kids really enjoyed the day.
